Caramel Popcorn since the 1800s?

Hi there!

Today’s national caramel popcorn day. With this being said made wonder how this classic sweet treat was created.

I found out, everything got started back in the late 1870s, when two German brothers Frederick and Louis Reuckeim migrated to Chicago. They started their own popcorn store and playing with different flavors they discover what became one of their most popular sell. This sweet and salty treat was at first prepared with molasses and peanuts and it became a very big hit in the late 1890s as party favors or even Halloween treats. And this is how Cracker Jack began, the popular bagged caramel popcorn we all ate as child at some point.

So to celebrate today’s sweet treat lets make our own version of caramel popcorn.
